Tondo a term born in the Renaissance for circular paintings, were original wooden birth trays which were used as a service tray for mothers during confinements and later displayed as a momento mori and painted on them, a symbol of life and eternity. Now also a symbol for the petri dish and contemporary science. The work relates to the centuries old discussion which raises the question of life and its origin, the challenge between old standards and new science.
